Hi all!

We're a group of interdisciplinary enthusiasts from diverse fields. We love drawing inspiration from different backgrounds, making new friends, and exploring not just our campus but the world beyond. Our goal is to find ways to break down communication barriers between different disciplines, fostering deeper connections and collaboration.

Our Mission

This group is dedicated to fostering meaningful connections across academic disciplines to enhance the personal and professional growth of graduate and professional students at Duke. We believe that creativity and innovation flourish when diverse perspectives intersect, yet graduate students across fields remain isolated from one another and are often unaware of opportunities to collaborate outside their home department.

Through peer mentorship, workshops and networking opportunities, we aim to create spaces where students can engage beyond their primary discipline, sparking new ideas and collaborative possibilities. Through our affiliation with the Office of Interdisciplinary Studies, we will provide a student-oriented experience that empowers budding scholars to expand their perspectives, refine their communication skills, and advance their academic, research and career goals.

For individuals, we will provide avenues for students to learn from one another, gain exposure to different research areas, and cultivate curiosity and innovation. For the larger graduate/professional student community, we will build academic networks that fuel interdisciplinary collaboration and innovation – opening channels of communication across fields and serving as connectors to tackle real-world research challenges that span disciplinary borders.

Our Events

We're hosting events that are specifically designed to bring together interdisciplinary perspectives to solve problems and build community. These events include:
- One Day Across the Bridge: a peer mentorship program to connect people from different disciplines. Operates on a rolling basis.
- Visualize Your Research: encouraging students from different disciplines to creatively present their research using artistic and visualization tools. Two to three times per semester, depending on interest.
- Socrates Cafe: monthly roundtable discussions of real-world challenges.
- Research presentation competitions incorporating audience participation.
